Phase I in the Engineer of 2020 project, Visions of Engineering in the New Century, described a set of attributes that are expected to be necessary for engineers that will perform well in a world that is driven by rapid technological advancement, national security needs, aging infrastructure in developed countries, environmental challenges brought about by population growth and diminishing resources, and the creation of new disciplines that exist at the interfaces between engineering and science. These attributes call for us to educate technically proficient engineers who are broadly educated, see themselves as global citizens, can be leaders in business and public service, and who are ethically grounded. Educating the Engineer of 2020: Adapting Engineering Education to the New Century, this Phase II report, provides a suite of recommendations that can guide engineering educators, employers of engineers, professional societies, and government agencies in their efforts.

With the rapid globalization of higher education as well as related changes in social, political, economic, and other conditions over the last 25 years there have been ever increasing expectations for higher education, in general, and Engineering Education, in particular. These expectations are often expressed in terms of the need for Quality Assurance locally, regionally, and globally. In some cases, there is a long tradition of independence and self-regulation of higher education institutions and programs. In other contexts, there has been c- siderable governmental regulation and disciplinary direction over time. The authors in this volume represent essentially all continents and 15 different countries. The common issues that they raise and their accounts of past, present, and future ch- lenges provide a snapshot of the current state of Quality Assurance in higher edu- tion and Engineering Education. This volume begins with an overview of the history and background of Quality Assurance in higher education and Engineering Education over the last century. The discussion of the historical, philosophical, political, and social background of Quality Assurance sets the stage for the other chapters. Following this broad brush stoke introduction, in the next part of the book, authors describe the general issues and challenges facing Quality Assurance in the twenty-first century from both regional and national perspectives. These authors have extensive experience in the area of Quality Assurance and have observed its growth and develop first hand over many years.

With a significant number of claims having been brought under NAFTA Chapter 11 in the last 3 years, public and professional interest in this topic has been growing significantly. Quite simply, anyone doing business under NAFTA, or anyone representing a company doing business under NAFTA, must be completely familiar with the provisions of Chapter 11. Combining expert commentary with complete primary source materials and case law, Kluwer Law International's "Investment Disputes Under NAFTA" is the must-have resource for anyone planning - or already involved in - a Chapter 11 claim. NAFTA's Chapter 11, like many treaties, sets forth rules for arbitration. Current procedures have been developed, in part, as cases have arisen and been resolved. This book enables anyone interested in these procedures to know exactly the current state of the law. Only "Investment Disputes Under NAFTA" delivers: Article-by-Article explanations of the ins and outs of Chapter 11; a valuable collection of key case law that has been affected by Chapter 11; accurate and thorough cross-referencing to help you quickly and easily find all relevant material; and logical organization of all materials as well as a complete index and table of cases. This one-of-a-kind resource is practice based and user-friendly. It is the only product to collect the body of NAFTA jurisprudence. It also incorporates substantial references to decisions in other investment treaty cases, decisions by mixed claims commissions and other arbitral bodies, Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal jurisprudence, and International Court of Justice decisions. Kluwer Law International's "Investment Disputes Under NAFTA" also contains charts presenting valuable information such as the arbitrators in each case, the rules under which the arbitrations have been conducted, and the remedies granted in each particular case

We work, travel, learn, seek, reflect, take part in dialogues, meet, discuss, and try to create a convivial atmosphere: this is the life story of the Arab Education Forum, and this is also how the story of this book started: from two seminars held three years apart, the idea of this book arose from an evident shortage of literature and knowledge about mobility as a tool for learning, dialogue, and artistic exchange and as a new-old paradigm around the Mediterranean basin. But what kind of knowledge, ideas and visions, do mobility practices generate? How does mobility, and its restrictions, produce and contrast the transformation and alteration of geographies, borders, territories, cities and conflict areas? How do mobility practices contribute to creating new narratives, cultural representations and counter-representations? How could cultural mobility contribute to a responsible and sustainable transformation of society? What are the impacts of mobility? What can be learned through the analysis of the relationship between mobility, art, education, intercultural dialogue, human rights and volunteerism? The present volume covers and reflects on these several crucial issues that shape the contemporary age, and provides some new and fresh perspectives about the challenges of mobility.
