There is a lack of UK authored Psychobiology texts. The market is dominated by US books that do not have the BPS syllabus in mind when publishing. Given that Psychobiology is a core area within the BPS syllabus it is essential that the book will focus on this, whilst taking the reader beyond for those idiosyncratic third year courses. The aim of the book is thus to: provide a textbook in Psychobiology that adheres to and extends the BPS syllabus present a text that is accessible and comprehensive assuming no prior knowledge (appealling to the biological resistant psychology student) emphasise the role of Psychobiology in practice and the real world emphasise the interaction of Psychobiology with other areas of psychology (e.g. social psychology) and other disciplines (e.g. medicine, pharmacology) introduce the reader to a range of research methodologies used in Psychobiology research provide a textbook on Psychobiology that views this material from a UK perspective; this will involve the use of examples and illustrations that will be familiar and relevant to UK readers (e.g. NICE guidance, not FDA) The text will: use as many real world examples as possible emphasise the different levels of analysis and experimentation include evolutionary explanations of behaviour where possible use up to date experiments and a focus on methodology when appropriate All chapters will have: illustrations, figures and photographs in full colour learning objectives/outcomes an introductory paragraph outlining the contents of each chapters and what to expect key terms highlighted in boxes with definitions boxed features e.g. case studies, key investigators, practical applications, etc The supporting website will feature: podcasts – mini accounts of key points that could be downloaded with a visual animation and dialogue test battery for lecturers MCQ resources for students downloadable figures/summaries/lecturer slides

For a significant portion of psychology students, their reason for choosing an undergraduate degree in psychology is their interest in applied psychology and a desire to use psychological knowledge to help solve personal and social problems. With this in mind, this textbook has been designed to satisfy these needs for applied psychology teaching at all undergraduate levels. Applied Psychology is designed to introduce students to the main areas of applied psychology (Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Educational Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Sports & Exercise Psychology, Counselling Psychology and Teaching Psychology) from UK, European and international perspectives. It also introduces the core psychological knowledge that underpins these applied and professional areas. As a result, students learn core knowledge from the five main areas of psychology, as well as acquiring a thorough grounding in how this knowledge is applied, and the professional issues associated with that application. Highlights include a broad range of teaching and learning features designed to help the student learn and the teacher teach. These include: Focus Points, Colour Illustrations, Activity Boxes, Research Methods, Case Histories, Self–Test and Essay Questions, Learning Outcomes and Section Summaries, a Glossary as well as Links to Journal Articles and Further Reading. The chapters on Counselling Psychology and Teaching Psychology are available online via the Student Companion Site at: http://tinyurl.com/c3ztvtj The text is written to be accessible to Level 1 Introductory Psychology students, and also to provide the core knowledge and professional information that students at Levels 2 and 3 would require.

Nachdruck 2012).

Happier People Healthier Planet' addresses the diametrically opposed issues of personal wellbeing and ecological destruction as inseparable concerns. It shows how carefully attending to what really matters for personal thriving will also protect the environment. Most human beings are strongly attracted to material possessions, novelty and ever greater comfort and convenience, yet paradoxically, for those with a decent basic standard of living, growing affluence has not resulted in increased subjective wellbeing: overconsumption does not make us happy. Worse, our unchecked appetites for 'stuff' are fast undermining the delicately balanced life-support system provided by the natural world. It is perfectly possible to live a rewarding life without consuming more than we need, and we must all find out how to do so if we are to preserve the hospitality of the Earth. This book, unusual in the diversity of its perspectives, investigates the factors that are likely to encourage a positive preference for lifestyles that are sustainable. Informed and illustrated by insights from a wealth of sources, both academic and popular, it includes contributions from many individuals living in Britain who actively pursue lives of modest material consumption which they find fulfilling. These 'modest consumers' offer challenge, inspiration and reassurance in the search for better ways of living.

It will stimulate the reader to find out more about this fascinating area." - Vivien Swanson, University of Stirling "Engagingly written in a style that draws the reader in, it covers all the bases and provides an excellent introduction to the area." - Paul D.
