This unprecedented full-color atlas moves through various aspects of diagnosing and managing diseases of the ear, upper respiratory tract, oral cavity, and pharynx in small animals. Each chapter introduces a series of cases, describes how specialists handled them, adds broader support information, and concludes with other disorders that could affect the same anatomic area. The reader’s challenge is to note the signalment and history for each case, decide a diagnosis and management plan up front, then proceed stage by stage through the text, comparing what was envisioned with the actual steps taken and their outcomes. More than 350 full-color photos and radiographs, detailed procedural illustrations, and superb surgical drawings help relate the text to patient signs actually seen in practice. The editors have designed this highly practical, case-based reference guide for ease and enjoyment of learning. Published by Schluetersche, Germany and distributed by Manson Publishing.

Our understanding of how dogs think is littered with common misconceptions about the extent of their intellect and how they make sense of the world around them. How Dogs Think unravels the mystery of what a dog can understand and how much dogs can learn. World-renowned dog expert Stanley Coren explores the thought processes of dogs, describes how dogs solve problems, explains the depths and limits of their thinking and examines the kind of concepts which dogs can and cannot deal with. Along with practical advice for people who want to improve their dog's learning ability and working intelligence, How Dogs Think will answer such questions as: Do dogs have a notion of time? To what extent do dogs understand what you say? How sharp are their senses? What do they see and hear? Do dogs have a sense of music, humour, empathy, guilt or love? Do they learn by observation the way that people do? How much can they remember? Do dogs have ESP or the ability to predict earthquakes, and is it true that they can detect cancer or the onset of an epileptic fit in their owners? Drawing on all the latest scientific research, How Dogs Think will enable dog owners everywhere to understand more about what goes on in the mind of their best friend.

Although there are several gaps in understanding the many issues related to neurological disorders, we know enough to be able to shape effective policy responses to some of the most common. This book describes and discusses the increasing public health impact of common neurological disorders such as dementia, epilepsy, headache disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuroinfections, neurological disorders associated with malnutrition, pain associated with neurological disorders, Parkinson's disease, stroke and traumatic brain injuries. It provides information and advice on public health interventions that may reduce their occurrence and consequences, and offers health professionals and planners the opportunity to assess the burden caused by these disorders. The clear message that emerges is that unless immediate action is taken globally, the neurological burden is likely to become an increasingly serious and unmanageable.
